about

Let’s start by addressing the elephant in the room; we all know I went back and forth on if this blurb should be in first or third person several times. I ended up feeling like third sounded nicer, but duh I wrote it myself, okay.  While we’re at it let’s also address the other elephant in the room which is that I have NO idea how big that photo of myself is going to show up on different sized screens.

Nick Gonzales lives in Brooklyn.
He’s been there since 2021.
As a copywriter he’s worked on the some of the straightest (racecars) and fruitiest (pride campaigns, colorful hair dyes) things you could imagine at agencies like MullenLowe and TBWAChiatDay.

Before that, he went to the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a dedicated portfolio student and a totally fine business major.

And before that, he was a little kid who once got last place in a UIL Spelling competition, which is maybe not the origin story you’d want for a copywriter. But in fairness it was only because he capitalized the first letter of every word.  His commitment to title case is no more.  He spent his formative years watching 30 Rock and Project Runway. As a toddler his favorite songs were “Hey Baby” by No Doubt and “No Scrubs” by TLC and despite this his family swears they didn’t know he liked boys.  All of the above has informed his tone of voice in one way or another.

When he was 14 a sales associate told him he’d regret putting his birth year in his email someday and he didn’t understand it then but lowkey he does now.
